Red Hashish 101: A Colourful Journey Into The Distinctive Cannabis Concentrate

What is red hashish? Is red just one of many colours the legendary cannabis concentrate comes in?

Red Hashish Review: Why It Is Special And Where To Buy Hash Online In Canada

What is red hashish? Is red just one of many colours the legendary cannabis concentrate comes in?

While the name has something to do with the colour, it mainly tells consumers the effects they can expect and where and how it was produced. So what exactly is red hash?

Hashish has been in existence for possibly as long as humans have known about the power of cannabis.

Over the years, as we learned about the different ways we could use the magical herb, we refined the production methods and tweaked them to produce unique effects.

Hashish’s production has, however, remained relatively the same throughout history. It is still a labour-intensive extraction process, done mainly by hand.

However, hash differs depending on where it is produced, the strains used to make it, the maturity of the plants and the production process.

As a result, hash comes in different colours, from the famous red Lebanese hash, yellow hash and even black hashish.

When you buy weed online, you will likely come across these different types and colours of hash.

So what is red hashish? In this article, we tell you all about red Lebanese hash, its production, and how to use it.

The term "red hashish" might refer to one of two things; a hash product that is red in colour or the popular Red Lebanese hash whose production process gives it a distinctive redness.

What Is Red Hashish?

The term “red hashish” might refer to one of two things; a hash product that is red in colour or the popular Red Lebanese hash whose production process gives it a distinctive redness.

Hashish or hash is a cannabis concentrate made by collecting, compressing and processing cannabis trichomes

This type of concentrate has long been used in countries like Nepal, Lebanon, Iran, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Egypt.

The cannabis concentrate has been used for centuries. The first evidence of the word ‘hashish” appeared in a pamphlet published in 1123 CE in Cairo.

The concentrate made its way across the world, arriving in the Western world around the 18th century.

Hashish is produced using different methods, but traditionally, it was and still is produced by rubbing fresh cannabis between two hands, collecting the sticky resin, pressing it into bars, or rolling it into balls of hash called charas.

Hash comes in all shapes and sizes, and colours. Generally, hash takes on a reddish brown to black colour, depending on the production process.

Today, hash is easily accessible in Canada.

All you have to do is check out a reputable online dispensary like Chronic Farms, select your preferred type of hash or any other cannabis product, checkout and wait for your products to be shipped to your doorstep.

Now you know what hash is, but what type of hashish is red?

Most red hashish originates from Lebanon. This type of hash is known as Red Lebanese Hash.

It is, therefore, safe to say that the people there are experienced when it comes to high-quality red hashish.

Red Lebanese Hash: What Is It?

As the name suggests, Red Lebanese hash originates from Lebanon and is known for its reddish hue. This type of hash takes on reddish colour because of the production process and the age of the plants it is made of.

Lebanon has a very long history with hash. It has been produced in the country for centuries, and at one point, it was even used as a currency.

It is, therefore, safe to say that the people there are experienced when it comes to high-quality red hashish.

Lebanese hash comes in two common varieties; blonde, also known as yellow hashish and red hashish.

Yellow hash is typically made using younger cannabis plants, harvested early when the buds are at their peak THC production.

Red hashish, on the other hand, is made using older mature plants that are said to contain higher amounts of cannabinol (CBN).

The difference in when the plants are harvested affects the hash’s colour and effects.

Lebanese hash starts out as cannabis plants cultivated in the Baalbek valley, where harsh conditions force the landrace strains to produce heavy coats of THC-rich trichomes to protect themselves against the weather.

This thick coating of trichomes makes the plants ideal for hash production.

But why is the hashish red?

As mentioned above, the reddish colour comes from the unique process of drying and curing the cannabis plants and the hash production process.

Why Is Red Lebanese Hash Reddish?

As mentioned above, the reddish colour comes from the unique process of drying and curing the cannabis plants and the hash production process. But how is this process different from other countries that produce hash?

To make Red Lebanese, plants are left on the fields longer. During this period, the sun’s UV rays continue transforming the trichomes giving them a unique red tint.

The trichomes also change colour as the plant matures, turning from clear to milky to amber.

The plant’s pistils also add an orange-reddish colour. The mixture of factors, including the red tint from the sun, the more mature amber-reddish trichomes and orange-reddish pistils, some of which may make it into the hash, make red hashish red.

Red Lebanese hashish is then aged for one or two harvesting seasons, allowing the hash to enrich its aromas and flavours. The aging process ensures the hash develops a pliable consistency and strengthens the woody and spicy flavours of Lebanese strains.

On the other hand, yellow or blonde Lebanese hash is yellowish in colour as it is made from younger plants. Younger plants have clear to milky trichomes.

This variety typically contains more THC and therefore produces a more cerebral high than red hashish, which contains more CBN, hence why it produces relaxing effects.

Red Lebanese hash is produced the same way as in Morocco, using mechanical separation methods to separate the trichomes from the ripe plants.

How Is Red Hashish Made?

Red Lebanese hash is produced the same way as in Morocco, using mechanical separation methods to separate the trichomes from the ripe plants.

This extraction method doesn’t use solvents, unlike most ways of making other cannabis concentrates.

As mentioned above, the plants are left out on the field until they are nearly dry, with the UV rays from the sun giving them a brownish-red colour. The plants are then harvested and put in barns where they completely dry and cure.

The buds are then rubbed carefully on a silk cloth or through a screen by hand. This separates the trichomes from the plant material.

As the cannabis flowers rub on the screen, the trichomes break off and fall to a container below the screen.

This process is known as dry sifting. The finer the screen used, the better quality the hash will be. Pure hash powder or kief is a fine powder when dry but becomes gooey and pliable when heated—poor quality hash won’t.

The hash powder is then stored for one or two harvesting seasons. The pressing of hash in Lebanon begins in the winter months.

The hash powder is put in linen or cotton bags and pressed. Red Lebanese hash is typically pressed in slabs of 100g, 200g or 1000g.

Some Lebanese red hashish is hand pressed. This is, however, hard to come by as it’s rarely exported.

Smoking hash may seem confusing, especially if you have never tried it before. However, it is possible to smoke red hashish just as easily as you smoke a flower.

How To Smoke Red Hashish

Smoking hash may seem confusing, especially if you have never tried it before. However, it is possible to smoke red hashish just as easily as you smoke a flower.

Here’s how you smoke hash after buying it from an online dispensary in Canada:

  1. Add it to your joint, blunt – Joints are still the most popular way of consuming cannabis in Canada. You can add some kick to your joints or blunts using red hashish.

All you have to do is roll hash into snakes and put some flower around it before rolling it like a normal joint using quality rolling paper

  1. Add hash to bong/ pipe – Smoking hash with a bong is easy. After you buy weed online, break a small part of the hash and add it on top of the flower or mix it in with the flower.

Light the flower as you usually would and inhale. To ensure the hash burns well, only buy quality Red Lebanese hash from a reputable online dispensary.

  1. Vaporize it – There are some vaporizers that are specifically designed for hashish, other solid concentrates and even dry herb.

Ensure your device is designed to handle hash, put a small piece into the compartment, turn it on and inhale.

  1. Consume it by itself – It’s possible to smoke hashish by placing it on a screen in a water pipe or bong.

It’s also possible to dab high-quality hashish, but most regular hash won’t vaporize completely, leaving too much residue behind. If you want to dab hash, test with a small amount to see if it vaporizes completely.
