Hash is a cannabis extract, made when trichomes on the surface of plants are removed and processed. It usually has an Abundant amount or resin in it which makes for its dark green coloration with browns being present as well depending how old they were before processing started (though this can change). Hash comes packed into small bricks that you might find at your local head shop!

The word “hashish” is derived from the Arabic language, which roughly translates to mean “a type of grass.” The popularization and introduction into society for this plant was around 900 B.C. However it has been shown that some types existed as early as 600 B.C., when cannabis resin started being used in Arabia during religious rituals by priestesses who would smoke marijuana while they prayed or made offerings on behalf of their god.

If you’re looking to make your own hash at home, the best option is bubble hash. It involves agitating cannabis through ice-filled water and trying to get trichomes to freeze on as many parts of plants’ surfaces as possible so that they can break off easily with sifting screens made from mesh material.

Materials required to make bubble hash:

  • Set of 5-gallon (19-liter) ice-water hash bags
  • 25-micron filter cloths for collecting and drying
  • At least three clean 5-gallon (19-liter) plastic buckets
  • Large wooden spoon or pole for stirring
  • Butter knife or stiff card for collecting hash from bags
  • Absorbent towels
  • 200 grams (7 ounces) of cannabis flower
  • A water hose
  • Turkey roasting bags
  • Tray or wire rack
  • Heat-resistant gloves
  • Parchment paper
  • Bottle filled with hot water

Dry-sift hash: Dry sift is a collection of resin glands from cannabis flowers that have been separated using fine mesh screens. It’s essentially kief, but much purer and cleaner than what you’ll find in your average joint or blunt- which often contains clumps with small pieces still attached!

To create dry sift, extractors rub and tumble dried cannabis over a finely woven screen. This process of agitation causes trichomes to break off while fine mesh screens allow only resin heads through it with more advanced techniques using static electricity helping out even further by separating valuable cannabinoids from plant matter in one easy step!

The waxy, sand-like resin is often used to coat bowls or add a special flare. Others prefer pressing it into traditional hash and dabbing on top for an intense experience that won’t leave your hands sticky!

Bubble hash: Bubble hash is created by placing cannabis buds in ice water, which freezes trichomes. The mixture is then agitated and broken off the plant’s resin glands with a series of fine screen bags that have been prepped for this task.

The resin is then collected and dried, turning it into bubble hash. The different textures that can appear to be greasy or oily depending on what conditions are used when making the product.

The most common way to use hash is by smoking it. You may find references that mention eating, but the best option in my opinion are edibles which provide a much tastier and easier high when compared with ingestion methods such as joints or pipes-of course there’s always rolling your own weed cigarettes too!

Joint/bongs: One of the most popular ways to smoke hash is by adding it into a bong, bubbler or pipe. The process will increase both potency and effects as well!

Hot knifing: Hash can also be smoked on its own. It’s called “hot knifing” or taking a “knife hit” if you use two metal knives, usually butter knives, to heat up and then place them over an electric range until they glow red-hot before putting in your piece of hash for some added effect! The second knife is placed over the hash, which helps steady it and increase its burn rate. The smoker holds a funnel shaped instrument to their mouth while placing this wide end on top of fire knives so they can capture all smoke possible before inhaling deeply.

Dabbing: Dabbing is a popular method for consuming concentrates and extracts, but not all types of smoke are created equal. The type you’ll want falls into one category known as “hash.” There’s no need to be intimidated by its reputation; just take it slow when breaking out your new dab rig or find someone who has done so before!
